We demand excellence in effort and performance in the classroom, the athletic field and the community

Those who achieve at an appropriate level will be rewarded with playing time, those who fail to achieve or refuse to meet expectations in relation to proper effort will be confronted and held accountable for their unwillingness to meet the Cougar Football Program expectations and goals.
The primary goal of the Half Moon Bay Football Program is to WIN THE varsity league and sectional championships with young men who have matured into excellent students and citizens. All Cougar Football players will be motivated to understand and assertively implement the connection between academic achievement, disciplined behavior and continued athletic participation. The development of appropriate YEAR-ROUND BEHAVIOR ON AND OFF CAMPUS, GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP, CHARACTER, INTEGRITY, AND SAFETY ARE THE COACHING STAFF'S HIGHEST PRIORITIES.
The HMB coaching staff believes in the philosophy of the multiple sport athlete. IT WILL actively encourage football players to participate in winter and spring season sports in addition to football. Those football athletes who do not elect to play a winter or spring season sport will be expected to take advantage of opportunities to improve their athleticism and football skills in early morning training sessions.
Football students and athletes are continually evaluated in terms of academic and athletic ability. They are realistically promoted and exposed to student/athlete opportunities at the junior college and four-year college levels. The HMB football program has an athletic counselor who aggressively and realistically assists and guides student-athletes through the collegiate recruiting process.

CARDIAC CLUB

In 2008, we started a new cougar football tradition called the “community cougar”. Each game week, our players will get together and choose a person (teacher, administrator, parent, or anyone in the community) who has helped support them in some way, be it academically, athletically, emotionally, etc.

That week, the community cougar is invited to any practice/meeting/ “behind the scenes look” they would like to attend. They would be guest of honor at our team dinner thursday night and invited down to our sideline during the game. We'll give them a long-sleeved shirt with "community cougar" on the back to wear at the games.

This is our way to highlight the impact of a few of the many people that support and encourage our kids. Their contributions are vital to our success and we are proud to recognize them through the 'community cougar' tradition.

COMMUNITY COUGARS

Cardiac club members earn an exclusive long-sleeved workout shirt and patch for their lettermen’s jacket; both say "Cardiac Club".

Criteria:
